Clovis (9-8) at Artesia (10-8)
7 p.m. today
Radio: KCLV-AM 1240, KRMQ-FM 101.5.
Coaches: Clovis, J.D. Isler, ninth season. Artesia, Ike Montoya, fifth season.
Last games: The Wildcats dropped a 71-67 home game on Friday to Espanola Valley, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A. The Bulldogs snapped a two-game skid with a 62-56 win over Moriarty.
Last meeting: 2009, the Cats won 79-52 at The Rock.
Artesia players to watch: G Matt Navarrette, 6-0 Jr.; C Eric Weller, 6-5 Jr.
Going in: “Even though we lost the Espanola game, we’ve showed some signs of picking up the intensity,” Clovis coach J.D. Isler said. “I’m expecting us to have a good game.”
Eligible soon: Guards Lathan Lieb and Craig Cook are soon to become eligible for the Wildcats. They would have been eligible for a game this Friday against Los Lunas at The Rock, but the game was canceled. Tigers coach Albert Aragon told the Valencia County News-Bulletin he was frustrated with a sudden schedule change when his team came to the Southwest Dairy Farmers Classic here in late December.
Los Lunas picked up a game for Wednesday against Belen. Isler said he hasn’t had the same luck.
“We’re in the process of trying to find something,” he said. “We haven’t yet.”
Getting healthy: Isler expects senior post Kyler Brewer-Hill to play despite shoulder issues, but is sitting junior guard Deven Crockett (turf toe) out until the Feb. 5 District 4-5A opener against Hobbs.
