Today will be a busy one for area high school basketball teams, with a possibility of 18 games on the card.
Clovis High’s girls are slated to visit Roswell Goddard in a 7 p.m. game. Lady Wildcats coach Jeff Reed said a decision on that game will be made by 10 a.m. today.
Reed was also hoping to reschedule home postponements from Thursday against Roswell High and from Friday against Artesia. He said late Friday that Artesia nixed a chance to play on Monday because it has a district game the following night, while a decision on the Roswell High game isn’t expected before Monday.
Texico is expecting to play its District 6-2A doubleheader at Tucumcari today, but athletic director and Lady Wolverines coach Keith Durham also said a final decision will be made by 10 a.m. today.
Meantime, Portales is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. District 4-3A contest today at Dexter.
All five area doubleheaders scheduled for today are to be played, with Texico at Tucumcari in District 6-2A, San Jon at Grady and Logan at Clovis Christian in District 4-1A and Tatum at Floyd and Melrose at Gateway Christian in non-district play.
The only time change involves Tatum and Floyd, with the girls game moved up two hours to 3:30 p.m. and the boys at 5 p.m.
In addition, all three area Texas schools have rescheduled Friday night doubleheaders for today, with Farwell at Springlake Earth (1 p.m. girls, 2:30 p.m. boys MST) and Bovina at Morton (11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.) in District 5-1A and Childress at Muleshoe 4 and 5:30 p.m.) in District 2-2A.
The only other games which have been rescheduled from the Thursday/Friday postponements are a doubleheader sending Grady to Logan in 4-1A. Those games will be played on Feb. 16.
Clovis High’s boys and girls swimming teams were scheduled to travel to Santa Fe Prep’s Griffin Invite today, but CHS athletic director Brian Stacy said the teams won’t make the trip.
