Radio: KCLV-FM 99.1.
Last time out: Clovis routed Goddard 71-17 on Saturday night at Roswell. Hobbs opened district play at Carlsbad on Tuesday and lost 32-29, while Roswell High’s last outing was also on Tuesday, a 35-34 win at home over Portales.
Last meeting: The Lady Wildcats beat Roswell High 48-41 at The Rock on Feb. 13, 2009, and won at Hobbs 53-50 one week later.
Hobbs players to watch: Jayde Burrell, 5-10 Sr. P; Summer Patterson, 5-7 Jr. G.
Roswell High players to watch: Shanice Steenholdt, 6-0 Jr. C.
Of note: Steenholdt suffered a leg injury during summer basketball and only returned to the lineup Jan. 19 at Hobbs. The Lady Coyotes won that game 45-43 to start a current four-game winning streak. … It’s the third time CHS and Roswell High have tried to play this game, postponed twice in January because of inclement weather. … The Lady Cats haven’t had a competitive game since winning at Portales 30-28 on Jan. 19. Their only outing between then and Saturday’s rout was a 53-17 pasting of Rio Rancho here on Jan. 22. … With 27 points at Goddard, Lady Cats senior P Antiesha Brown passed Cisti Greenwalt for second place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,457 career points. She is within 78 of all-time leader Brittany Blackmon. … The Lady Eagles like to shoot 3-pointers, CHS coach Jeff Reed said, but struggled from long range Tuesday at Carlsbad. They managed only one point in the fourth quarter after entering the period trailing 29-28. “It was pretty ugly,” said Reed, who scouted the game, “but I don’t expect Hobbs to play ugly against us.” … Hobbs is coached by former CHS assistant Johnny Casaus. … With only two seniors on their roster, the Lady Eagles have been up and down this season and come in with five losses in six games. They did, however, hand top-ranked Eldorado its only loss of the season 49-47 in a tournament at Las Cruces in late December. “I think they’re a little shaken,” Reed said of Hobbs’ recent slide. “if we can jump on them early, I think we can do some good.”
