Portales (13-12) at Lovington (21-4)

7 p.m. today

District 4-3A boys tournament championship.

Radio: KSEL-FM 105.9.

Last outing: Portales, the second seed, downed New Mexico Military 44-38 on Thursday at Portales. Top-seeded Lovington hasn’t played since winning at Ruidoso 66-45 in the Wildcats’ regular-son finale on Feb. 16.

Season series: Lovington swept the Rams, winning 44-33 in Portales on Jan. 26 and 60-34 in Lovington on Feb. 12.

What to expect: Portales coach Mark Gallegos said the Rams have to be able to play a game in the 45- to 50-point range to have a chance.

“The biggest thing is, going in, is keeping them out of the lane,” Gallegos said. “They’re so athletic and quick.”

Notes: Lovington’s only losses were to Seminole (Texas) in its season opener, and to New Mexico teams outside 3A — Class 4A’s Roswell High and Artesia and Class 2A’s Texico.
