The Clovis Wildcats (18-10) received the sixth seed in the Class 5A state tournament, while the Lady Wildcats parlayed a 22-4 record into the No. 5 slot in the girls bracket.
The Clovis boys, regular season and tournament champions for District 4-5A, will take on 11th seed Gadsden in a 7 p.m. Saturday game at Rock Staubus Gymnasium.
The Clovis girls host Rio Rancho Cleveland. The teams have split their season series 1-1.
Portales, seeded No. 1 in the girls bracket, will face Robertson in a 7 p.m. Friday contest.
The Ram boys, seeded 12th, travel to Santa Fe Saturday to face St. Michael's in a rematch of last year's Class 3A semifinals.
Several other area teams will be in action in Classes 1A and 2A, but seeding won't be announced until regional rounds end. Area qualifiers for boys include Texico, Fort Sumner and Melrose. Girls qualifiers include Texico, Grady, Logan and Floyd.
