• The Idalou Wildcats dominated the middle two quarters Monday night and eliminated Muleshoe from the Texas Class 2A playoffs with a 55-42 victory in a regional quarterfinal game at Levelland.

Idalou (27-5) erased a 10-8 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Mules 16-7 in the second period and 12-8 in the third. Muleshoe (20-15) was unable to get the margin under seven points the rest of the way.

“We put them on the line too much in the second and third quarters,” Mules coach Matt Mason said. “We did a good job overall and competed. It was a close game for the most part.”

Junior forward Cooper Washignton was the Mules’ lone double-figure scorer with 19 points. The Mules had only two fewer field goals than Idalou, but the Wildcats shot 19-of-33 at the free throw line to 10-of-13 for Muleshoe.

• At the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Farwell got down 21-11 in the first quarter and could never make up the deficit in a 61-57 loss to Seagraves in a Class 1A Division I regional quarterfinal contest.

The Eagles (18-8) were able to fend off runs by the Steers (24-9) all night long. Farwell, which converted just 8-of-20 free throws, was never able to get closer than the final margin.

Luke Carpenter scored 13 points and Lincoln Devault 11 for the Steers.
