PORTALES — Fort Sumner captured nine of 12 events on the track Thursday and the Vixens cruised to a team victory in the Ram Relays at Portales High School.

Fort Sumner finished with 131 points to 78 1/2 for Portales and 61 for Texico in the 11-school event. Portales claimed the boys’ team title with 90 1/2 points to 87 for Ruidoso and 80 1/2 for Texico.

Fort Sumner ran 1-2 in the girls 100 with LaNay Crenshaw (13.40) and Sarah Stinnett (13.71) and in the 800 with Justyne McMath (2:41.64) and Katelyn Gunn (2:44.54). Other winners on the track were Stinnett in the 400 (1:04.39), Christie Boyle in the 1,600 (5:57.37) and 3,200 (13:24.10), Ashley Landreth in the 100 hurdles (17.86) and 300 hurdles (51.96), and the 400 and 1,600 relays.

Texico had two second-place finishes — Fallon Scanlan in long jump (14-8) and Stephany Southward in discus (101-5).

Portales took the boys’ team title with 90 1/2 points to 87 for Ruidoso and 80 1/2 for Texico. Clovis freshmen finished fourth with 62.

Area athletes collected eight event wins, led by Gene Snell of the Clovis freshmen with victories in the 1,600 (3:46.91 and 3,200 (11:28.47). Other Wildcats winners were Michael Grooms in discus (136-10 1/2) and Blake Wiley in javelin (147-1).

Fort Sumner’s Skylar McMath won the 800 (2:09.87), and the Foxes also prevailed in the 1,600 relay (3:46.91). Clovis Christian’s Mike Urioste was first in the 400 (54.57), and Texico’s Dathan McWhorter won in shot put (47-7).
