LAS VEGAS, N.M. — The Portales tennis teams managed one win in round-robin miniduals on Friday and Saturday in a five-team tournament hosted by Las Vegas Robertson.

The Lady Rams went 1-3 in the event, blanking Raton 5-0 on Saturday before losing to host Robertson 3-2. On Friday, PHS was beaten 3-2 by Belen and 5-0 by Sandia Prep.

In singles competition, Shelby Lucero went 2-2 at No. 1 while Megan Combs at No. 2 and Stefania Gutierrez at No. 3 were both 1-3. In doubles, Makynsi Whited and Kim Spotswood posted a 3-1 record at No. 1 and Sabrina Montoya and Emily Walker were 2-2 at No. 2, with both Lady Rams tandems winning by default against Raton.

On the boys side, the Rams lost to Robertson 4-1 and to Raton 3-2 on Saturday. Jesse Hooper and Mychael Sturm posted Portales’ lone win against the Cardinals, a 6-1, 6-4 verdict at No. 2 doubles, while Kacey Vigil won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Nathan Walker posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against Raton.

Portales lost both boys duals on Friday, to Sandia Prep and Belen, but results of the matches were not available.
