• Top newcomers: Dusty Luce, Sr. T/MLB; Nakuta Fuchs, Sr. TE/DE; Josh Gauna, Sr. TB/CB. Fuchs is a transfer from Tularosa.
• Possible breakout player: Crenshaw. “He went out early (last season) with a knee injury,” Moyer said. “He’s got some speed, and he’s just tough to take down.”
• Biggest hole(s) to fill: G/MLB Cameron Simmons, lost to graduation. Simmons was the Foxes’ captain on defense and the leader in the offensive line, Moyer said.
• Lunchpail guy: Kenyon. “He doesn’t have tremendous speed,” Moyer said. “He just plays tough.”
• Hardest hitter: McMath.
• Biggest early-season test: For the first time in years, Class 2A rival Santa Rosa is not on the Foxes’ schedule, but the teams were slated to scrimmage on Aug. 20. “(It) will be kind of a wakeup call,” Moyer said.
• Keys to 2010 season: The Foxes, who won four consecutive Class 1A titles from 2005-08, were hit hard with injuries last season. Moyer believes the team’s depth, with around 30 players on the roster, should be better this season.
• Coach’s overview: “We’ve got a little bit more experience. We lost a lot of seniors, but a lot of them were (among the) kids that got hurt. I’m hoping (our experience) really helps us this year.”
• Last playoff appearance: 2009, lost to Hagerman in 1A semifinals.
• State titles (9): 1995, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008.
