Floyd 54, Grady 39

• Records: Floyd 1-0, Grady 0-1.

• Recap: Senior center Justin Rogers scored 25 points and senior guard J’Kobie Lee added 10 as the Broncos opened their season with a win.

Junior forward Dustin Provenico had 15 points and senior forward Hunter Andrews finished with 13 points for Grady, which pull to within six points in the third quarter.

• Coach’s comments: “We came out and got some early shots and the defense was able to get to the ball. We needed to knock the rust off. It is completely different between practice and game situations. So we got off to a slow start.” — Floyd Rafael Roybal.

Girls

Floyd 50, Grady 23

• Records: Floyd 1-0, Grady 0-1.

• Recap: Senior forward Tori Tucker scored 22 points and the defending Class 1A champs Floyd Lady Broncos jumped out to a 10-point lead and never looked back.

Freshman Tabitha Ornelas and sophomore Delta Navarrette added six points each for Floyd. Senior guard Mandy Rush led Grady with 15 points.

• Coach’s comment: “We graduated five very good players. We have only one junior and one senior on this team this year. We’re going to make a lot of mistakes, but they are ready to learn. We play Elida next week, (which) is a very good team and we’re hoping to keep getting better.” — Floyd Adam Terry.
