CANYON, Texas — Quarterback Dorian Vela ran for a pair of t ouchdowns and Rosendo Lara returned an interception 45 yards for a score, lifting the Bovina Mustangs past White Deer 32-18 on Saturday in a Texas Class 1A Division II area round playoff game.

The Mustangs (7-5) meet district rival Farwell (11-1) in the next round of the playoffs, at a site and on a day to be determined.

Lara’s interception capped a three-touchdown eruption that gave the Mustangs a 32-2 halftime lead.

Rolando Perez scored on a 14-yard run in the second quarter and led a 431-yard ground attack for the Bovina with 162 yards on 20 carries. Andrew Marrufo rushed for 123 yards for Bovina.

The Bucks (7-5), who got a first-quarter 2-point defensive conversion, added a touchdown and 2-point conversion in each of the final two periods.
