Boys

Whitharral 44, Floyd 36

Records: Whitharral 8-4, Floyd 4-3.

Recap: Whitharral got off to a slow start before rallying past the Broncos in the tournament’s championship game.

Notes: Whitharral’s Landon Mccormack and Blake Grant scored 10 points apiece. Seniors J’Kobie Lee, Larkin Lindsey and Leon Mendoza each scored seven points for the Broncos.

Up next: The Broncos host Melrose at 6 p.m. Thursday.

 

Girls

Floyd 51, Lazbuddie 19

Records: Floyd 4-4, Lazbuddie 0-6.

Recap: The Lady Broncos held Lazbuddie to three first-half points and cruised to victory in the tournament’s fifth-place game.

Notes: Tabitha Ornelas scored 19 points and Tori Tucker had 18 for the Lady Broncos.

Up next: The Lady Broncos host Melrose at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

 

Elida Invitational

Boys

Clayton 74, Dora 49

Records: Clayton 3-2, Dora 4-3.

Recap: Clayton dominated Dora in the third place game, the Yellowjackets’ second win of 20 or more points in the tournament.

Notes: Freshman Dylan Privett scored 12 points for Dora, while senior Kyler King had 10. Jorge Gonzales scored 30 points for the Yellowjackets.

Up next: Dora play at Fort Sumner Saturday at 4 p.m.

 

Elida 62, Clovis JV 56

Records: Elida 5-3, Clovis JV 4-3.

Recap: Elida scored 22 points in the fourth quarter after trailing for most of that game for the win.

Notes: Senior Alex Varela led the Tigers with 27 points while Martin Lopez had 16 for the Wildcats.

Up next: Elida plays at Hondo at 5 p.m. on Monday.

 

Girls

Elida 56, Dora 55

Records: Elida 6-2, Dora 6-1.

Recap: Elida handed Dora its first loss of the season as senior Reavis Best hit a game-winning jumper with 3 seconds left in the tournament championship.

Notes: Best had 19 points and senior Margarita Ortiz added 17 for Elida. Senior Kelli Merrick finished with a game-high 30 points for the Lady Coyotes.

Up next: Dora play at Fort Sumner at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Elida visits Hondo at 5 p.m. on Monday.
