ROSWELL — The Portales Lady Rams pushed their winning streak to seven games after beating Goddard 38-14 on Saturday. missed two games with death in family

Junior Macy Mitchell, who had missed Thursday’s loss to Roswell with a death in the family, scored 18 points in her return and senior Gabby Garcia tallied 10 points.

“We’re not playing very well right now, but we won,” Portales couch Clay Stout said. “We just couldn’t get any shot to fall. It was one of those nights. We weren’t very sharp mentally.”

The Lady Rams (11-5) held the Rockets to two points in the second and third quarters, and below 15 points for the second time this season.

Portales won 49-13 at home against the visiting Lady Rockets earlier in the year.

Cheyenne Kyser scored five points for Goddard (1-16).

“The last time we played them we had seven 3s,” Stout said. “We had good looks; we had a hard time getting them to fall. Defensively we didn’t play that bad, but offensively we were out of sync.”

Portales plays Clovis at Rock Staubus Gymnasium in a 5:30 p.m. Tuesday contest.
