Clovis Christian freshman Kendall Naceanceno goes up for a shot during the second quarter of Thursday’s game against Grady at the CCS gym.

Clovis Christian’s boys are on the board in District 2-B.

Junior Kevin Naceanceno scrambled to get a rebound basket with 1:10 left and the Eagles forced three turnovers in the remaining time to edge Grady 31-29 Thursday night at the CCS gym.

Both teams struggled mightily to score, but in the end the Eagles (4-16, 1-5 district) did just enough.

“We executed better (than in previous games),” Eagles coach Wes Weems said. “We had a little bit of a lead in the two or three minutes where we didn’t play very good (during the third quarter). But it was probably one of the best games we’ve played as a team.”

Neither team put anyone in double figures. Naceanceno’s game-winner gave him game scoring honors with eight points, while Adam Lunsford and Cody Pancho each scored six points for the Bronchos (8-14, 2-3).

“Our pressure was effective tonight,” Weems said. “We didn’t give up easy buckets on the back end of it.”

The Bronchos won the earlier matchup at Grady 32-25.

“We had too many turnovers; turnovers killed up,” Grady coach Jim Kneipp said. “But I don’t take anything away from Wes’ bunch; they really played well.

“Both teams played hard. (Shots) just didn’t fall for us tonight, and they did for them.”

Grady girls 61, CCS 10 — The Lady Bronchos rolled out to a 20-2 lead at the quarter and cruised to the victory.

Senior Mandy Rush led three players in double figures for the Lady Bronchos (15-8, 4-1) with 14 points. Junior Jessica Taylor scored all but one her team’s points for CCS (0-21, 0-6), including a pair of 3-pointers.
