LUBBOCK — The Muleshoe Mules overcame a slow start Wednesday and advanced to Texas Class 2A regional semifinal competition with a 58-48 victory over the Stanton Buffaloes at Lubbock Christian’s Rip Griffin Center.

Guard Tyson Turnbow had three 3-pointers and 20 points for the Mules, who travel to Midland Junior College on Friday for a game against Eastland, a 53-52 overtime winner on Wednesday against Wall.

The Mules (22-10) found themselves behind 22-13 after one quarter as 6-foot-3 senior forward Tyler Fulton scored 14 of his game-high 25 points for the Buffaloes (25-6).

Muleshoe closed the margin to five points at halftime, then went on a 19-6 spree in the third quarter to take control.

“They (Buffs) got off to a fast start,” Muleshoe coach Matt Mason said. “We got away from playing inside-out basketball, but we eventually got back to that and took over.”

Senior forward Cooper Washington added 19 points for Muleshoe, while Stanton got three 3-pointers and 11 points from senior guard Trace Sidle.

Farwell 57, Iraan 47 — At Andrews, the Steers rolled to a 27-10 lead at the quarter and then survived some struggles to improve to 29-2.

“We came out really well,” coach Shane Perkins said. “The second and third quarters we missed a lot of shots under the basket.”

The Steers led all the way. The closest the Braves (25-4) could come was four points in the second half.

Senior guard Luke Carpenter scored 25 points for Farwell, while senior post Octavio Chavez added 11. Iraan was led by 15 points from sophomore point guard Zeth Hernandez.

Farwell takes on top-ranked Clarendon in a 2:30 p.m. (CST) contest on Friday at the Texan Dome on the campus of South Plains College in Levelland. Clarendon was victorious on Wednesday night over Gruver.
