The Tucumcari Rattlers were dominated Friday night in a 49-14 loss to the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell. The Rattlers (4-1) scored first against the Colts (5-0) on a 1-yard touchdown run by Sophomore Eric Holt with 8:14 remaining in the first quarter. Senior AJ Molinas added the extra point. That was the last time the Rattlers would celebrate. NMMI quickly countered with a touchdown less than two minutes later. A Tucumcari fumble led to another NMMI touchdown just 24 seconds later. Quarterback Chris McCasland fumbled leading to another NMMI score and by the end of the first quarter NMMI led 28-7. The lead was stretched to 42-7 by halftime. NMMI and Tucumcari each added a second half touchdown. Tucumcari returns home next week for homecoming. The Rattlers will meet Texico at 7 p.m. at Rattler Stadium. In 2002 Tucumcari suffered their first loss of the season at Texico 25-15.
