Methodists host 'Games Day'

Center Street United Methodist Church will hold its first annual “Games Day” Saturday Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All kinds of board games and card games will be played and everyone will break for an Italian lunch midway through the event. Anna Lee Schuster, an organizer of the event, said she got the idea for a games day from a church in Texas. “A Methodist church in Victoria, Texas has been holding a games day for years and it is very successful, so I thought it would be a good idea for our church here in Tucumcari,” said Schuster. “It’s a good way to show the rest of the community that Methodists like to have fun.” Schuster said there will also be a variety of door prizes and a “country store” at the event. “The country store will feature an array of homemade goodies, and we will have a silent auction of interesting gifts for the home,” she said. Many board games such as Monopoly and Uno will be provided for game players, but participants are also encouraged to bring their favorite board games to the event. “We will have bingo games with prizes offered,” said Schuster. “I expect people to be playing games like dominoes, canasta and bridge. We expect the game players to show up at 10 a.m., and we need reservations so we can know how many lunches to prepare.” The Italian lunch will feature homemade lasagna. “We will also have plenty of homemade desserts,” said Schuster. “This is our first time holding a games day, but people here at the church are enthusiastic about it. We want this to be a community thing.” Admission to Games Day is $8 which includes the Italian lunch. Reservations can be made by calling 461-2661.
