The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2528, located at 106 East Main Street will be serving free breakfast and dinner today and tomorrow in support of the Mother Road Rally. Mucio Lopez, quartermaster of the VFW Post, said that many VFW members and their families have donated time and money. ‘We’ve got a bunch of members volunteering this weekend, and we’ve received a lot of donations,” said Lopez. “We bought 40 cartons of eggs. We’ll be serving a full breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns, biscuits and salsa.” Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. today and tomorrow and lasts until 11 a.m. Then at 4 p.m., post members will be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for Mother Road Rally visitors and anybody who wants to drop by. Lopez said a new beer garden will be featured during the afternoon and evening hours. “We will officially be inaugurating the post’s new beer garden this evening,” he said. “The beer garden will be open all day today until 1:30 a.m. and then it will reopen tomorrow at noon.” Lopez said that the beer garden will be a permanent feature of the VFW post. “After the rally is over our beer garden will be open daily for our members,” he said. “Bottled and canned beer will sell for $1.75.” Lopez said Recuerdos, a popular Latin-American band, will be performing tonight from 7 p.m. to midnight. “This is probably the first time we’ll have such a big crowd,” he said. “The last time we had a big dinner was Mother’s Day last year.” This weekend, the only entrance to the post will be through the rear entrance by the fenced-in beer garden. The food will be free, but Lopez said the post will gladly accept any donations.
