Head Rattler volleyball coach Alicia Trujillo announced recently that she would be conducting a volleyball camp July 19 through the 23 for both boys and girls in the Quay County area. “It’s a good way to start the year off in the right direction,” said Trujillo about the volleyball camp for potential players. According to Trujillo, the Lady Rattler ‘Pass it, Set it, Spike it’ Volleyball Camp will be aimed at both younger and older youths with the younger ones, third through sixth grade, taking part in the morning and the older ones, seventh through 12th grades, taking part in the afternoon session. “They will match up better that way and we can specially mold the workout in their unique directions,” said Trujillo. “We’ll stress fundamentals of the game at this camp,” said Trujillo. “We’ll have an emphasis on the values of teamwork, commitment, sportsmanship and discipline. These are things that can really help an athlete.” Trujillo said that the young athletes would learn about passing, digging, setting and even spiking in addition to things like footwork and actual plays. The morning section will begin at the Tucumcari High School Gymnasium at 9 and will go until 11:30 a.m. The afternoon shift will begin at 1:30 and go to 4 p.m. “I think this will be a good camp and help athletes in a number of different ways,” said Trujillo. The cost of the camp is $30. For more information, individuals should call 461-8485.
