House traveled to Melrose last weekend to take part in the Melrose Invitational Volleyball Tournament where they faced off against three different teams: Tucumcari, Melrose and Santa Rosa. In their first game they defeated Tucumcari Rattlers in three 15-25, 28-26, 25-20. According to House Coach Marc Foust, it was a great win for his squad which had just come off a defeat by long-time foe Grady. Foust said the win gave his squad “a definite boost” at the tournament. The House head coach said he was especially impressed with his girls because in the second game Tucumcari was within striking distance of a win of not only the game, but the match when the House girls came from behind to battle to the win finally getting a two point lead at 28. “I felt they played very well,” said Foust about his girls. “I was very proud of them. They showed me a great deal to come from behind like they did.” Foust said the boost was not enough to overcome the host team the Melrose Buffaloes, who went on to place second in the tournament. However, Melrose won in only two games 25-21, 25-9. “I felt we could have won,” said Foust “We let it slip away. I felt frustrated by that one.” In a contest for third place House took on Santa Rosa but the AA volleyball power was too much for the small Quay County School. Santa Rosa defeated the House girls in two, 25-7, 25-7.
