Tucumcari has its first baby of the year. James Truman Windham was born at 5:02 p.m. Friday evening to Amanda and Doug Windham of Tucumcari and was 6 pounds, 4 1/2 ounces and was 18 3/4 inches long. Both parents said they were elated that the James Truman joined their family which also includes older brother Gabriel Martinez. “I’m just glad he’s here and he’s healthy,” said Doug Windham. The new father said the name while seeming to be a long name for a newborn, comes with something of a history. “I’ve had name picked out for quite a while,” said Windham. “It’s after both my grandfathers.” Both mother and father said they were happy that their child was the first born of the year bringing with it the many gifts that have been donated by area businesses and professionals. Among the many gifts were: toys, stuffed animals, clothes, shoes, diaper bags, savings bonds, baby bath products and even a number of gift certificates to places like Tucumcari restaurants and business. “It’ll be a little help. Maybe it will help us save a little,” said Doug Windham who works at the post office. The Windhams said they were happy that the birth went as easily as it did and were happy that their doctor, John Faith, also had been born on Jan. 8, didn’t mind sharing his birthday with the newborn. Even the delivery personnel said they were please with the first born of the year. “I’m tickled to death for them,” said Jimmie Templin. Grandparents are Rose and Jose Martinez and Mark Windham and Kay McGuffee.
