• Tucumcari High School will be holding a scholarship awards ceremony at 7 p.m. on May 12 in the high school auditorium. Representatives from organizations are invited to present any scholarships that are awarded to a Tucumcari High School student. The school requests organizations provide the counseling center about the amount of each scholarship and who will be presenting it. If a representative of the organization cannot attend the ceremony, a school official can present the award. The high school counseling center requests organizations submit the information by May 6 by calling 641-3830 ext. 305, by fax at 461-3769, or e-mail THS_CC@hotmail.com •Harding County, the Village of Mosquero, the Village of Roy and the Harding County Economic and Community Development Corporation are hosting a community pot luck dinner Sunday to thank Sen. Clint Harden and Rep. Brian Moore for their work during the legislative session. Anyone is invited to attend. The dinner will be at 1 p.m. in the Community Building at Roy. • Monday is the first day of the Keep Tucumcari Beautiful Week. The city landfill will be open for free dumping of residential trash to those who use the city trash service. People can also volunteer to help with the clean-up on April 23. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce to begin the clean-up. For more information contact Yvette Fazekas at 461-2143. • The Logan-Ute Lake Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their fifth annual Chuck Wagon Cook Off on April 23 at Ute Lake State Park. The competitors cook authentic chuck wagon style meals of the 1880s cattle drives over an open fire. Each entrant provides an authentic chuck wagon, cooking utensils and the gear of the typical 1880s era. Cooks will prepare chicken fried steak, beans, biscuits, “taters” and fresh apple cobbler over a wood fire. The camp that receives the most points based on friendliness to the public, appearance, attitude and cooperation will receive the Best Over All Camp award. For more information contact the Chamber at 487-2722. • The Quay County Extension Office will offer a workshop on Tuesday for diabetics titled Meal Planning Basics for Diabetics. The workshop will help attendees identify carbohydrates and learn how to incorporate recommendations form the American Diabetics Associate into their lifestyle. The hour-long course will be offered at 10 a.m. and again noon in the Extension Office meeting room. The workshop is free and open to anyone.
