Rodney Raines Jr. Services: No services were held at his request. Rodney D. Raines Jr., 72, died on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, in Kelseyville, Calif. He was born May 14, 1933, in California. He was a lifelong resident of California who served as a United States Marine during the Korean War and who worked for Contra Costa County in California until his retirement. He spent many years as a volunteer for the United Red Cross. He was a Christian. Family members said he was an avid sailor, sportsman and friend to all and he will be sadly missed by his children. He was preceded in death in 1998 by his wife, Carla Raines, of 43 years. He is survived by his children, R.D. Raines III of Washington, D.C., Diana Raines-Laird of Tucumcari and Nancy Raines of California; and by his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Pop,” Justin and Daniel Raines-Laird of California, Holly and Amy Raines-Baxter of Tucumcari and Laurel and Caitlyn Raines of Washington, D.C. No services were held at his request. Arrangements were by the Neptune Society, who will scatter his remains at sea in view of the sunset.
