Candidate filing day March 21 March 21 is the only day for citizens to file declarations of candidacy for the following offices: District 1 county commissioner, District 3 county commissioner, county assessor, county sheriff and magistrate judge. Filing may be made from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Quay County Clerk’s office at 300 S. Third St. The filing fee is $50. Candidates seeking election as magistrate judge must also file a nominating petition. Candidates will draw for ballot positions at 5 p.m. For information, contact the office at 461-0510. City to receive grant award Eric Griego, New Mexico Assistant Secretary for Economic Development, will be presenting the City of Tucumcari the New Mexico CCI Grant Award for 2005-07 on Tuesday. The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. at the Tucumcari Convention Center. Girl Scouts need papers Local Girl Scouts are asking for community help for Saturday’s paper drive. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mesalands Community college, troop members will be accepting newspapers from the community to recycle. Papers that are sun bleached or have been wet cannot be recycled. Little League registration Saturday Children ages 5-14 can sign up for Quay County Little League from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Tucumcari High School and Middle School gyms. Any child born between May 1991 and July 2001 is eligible, and children are asked to bring a birth certificate. The registration fee is $50. The organization is also having a raffle with prizes of $500, $250 and $100, with tickets at $5 each. Upcoming meetings include a 6 p.m. Thursday raffle and registration preparation workshop and a 6 p.m. March 8 board/coaches/umpires/volunteers meeting. Seuss celebration Thursday The Tucumcari Public Library will host its annual Dr. Seuss birthday celebration from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Tucumcari Elementary School cafeteria. Students have been asked to design a birthday card on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper, with prizes to be awarded at the event.
