Scholarship opportunity available The Tucumcari Lodge has a scholarship opportunity for the 2006-07 school year. Scholarships for any post-secondary, accredited, not-for profit educational institutions will be awarded to students, with a minimum of $500 awarded. To qualify, recipients must be either • a member in good standing of the Tucumcari Lodge or the biological child, stepchild or adopted child of a member, • a graudate of a Quay County high school or a resident of Quay County for two years prior to graduation from a home school program or • be a returning college student who has been a resident of Quay County for three years prior to the fall semester. The applicant must be enrolled to attend college full-time for the 2006-07 school year. To apply, contact James Dow at soon as possible at 461-4640. Tree sale coming next weekend The Canadian River Soil and Water Conservation District has ordered trees and shrubs for its annual tree sale, which will be at the Quay County Fairbarn on Thursday through next Saturday. A few trees and shrubs are still available. You may check at the District’s office at 706 S. First Street before the tree sale or come see what is available during the tree sale. Memorial to hold open house The Bosque Redondo Memorial, located three miles east of Fort Sumner, is holding an open house from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. next Saturday. Refreshments will be provided. Following the open house will be a star-gazing party from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The state monument is located 3 1/2 miles south on Billy The Kid Road. For information, call 355-2573 or e-mail: email@example.com Research Institute holding annual meeting The Tucumcari Historical Resarch Institute is holding its annual membership meeting 6 p.m. April 3 at the Elks Lodge. There will be a roast beef dinner available for $10. Entertainment includes Vicente Silva and his Bandits and Lucy Chavez Nials. Annual dues or $10 per family or $5 per individual, in addition to the dinner costs. The costs may be paid in advance at the Tucumcari Historial Museum or at the door. Call 461-4201 to make reservations or visit the museum. New members are welcome to join and attend.
