The Rattler track teams had no problems Saturday, taking easy victories in the Rattler Relays at Rattler Stadium. The Rattler boys had nine first-place finishes and scored 201.5 points, more than twice the 92 scored by second-place Dimmitt (Texas). Tucumcari had five of the six top finishes in disus, with junior Brian Lopez winning with a state-qualifying throw of 129-8. Adrian Jones earned a state-qualifying time of 42.75 seconds in a 300-meter hurdle victory, and Justin Benavidez finished the 200-meter dash in first with a state-qualifying mark of 22.86 seconds. Other first-place finishes for the Rattler boys included Austin Sellers (state-qualifying 2:06.88 in the 800-meter run), Nathan McDonald (100-meter dash and javelin), Eric Holt (state-qualifying 52.15 seconds in the 400-meter dash) and the 800-meter and 1600-meter relay teams. In girls competition, Jamie Jones had first-place finishes in the discus and javelin to help the Lady Rattlers score 124 points to beat out second-place Clayton (113 points). Other first-place finishers for the girls included Kenia Cepeda (state-qualifying 27.44 in the 200-meter dash), Theresa Chacon in the 1600-meter run and Lauren Chacon in the 800-meter run.
