Jean Strong Services: Saturday at 10 a.m., the Hamilton-O’Dell Chapelin Alamogordo. Jean Strong, 79, of Alamogordo died Tuesday in Alamogordo. Mrs. Strong was born May 3, 1927 in Hampton, Ark., the daughter of Nelson Amos and Mary Izora (Parker) Blann. As a young woman during World War II she was a welder on the Liberty Ships. She was a longtime resident of Tucumcari, before moving to Alamogordo in 1970 when she married her husband Jack. She was a member of The Christian Church; the Alamogordo Woman’s Club; and various quilting clubs. Over the years she had donated many quilts to the New Mexico State Police to distribute to children who were accident victims. Survivors include her husband Jack of the family home; two sons, Warren Jerry Gill and his wife Edna, and Bob Allen Gill and his wife Vangie, all of Alamogordo; two stepsons, Gary Allen Griggs and his wife Martha of Houston, Texas, and Edwin Griggs and his wife Evie of Los Alamos; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Herman Blann of Kansas, and Dale Blann of Raleigh, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and by her first husband Mike Gill. Chuck Moon will preside at the services. Arrangements are by Hamilton-O’Dell Funeral Home of Alamogordo.
