The body of a Tucumcari man was found about 1 p.m. Friday near an old packing plant on East 10th Street.
Police said Mitch Coomes, 38, was probably electrocuted. His body was found near a power post.
"The case is still under investigation by the medical examiner, but it appears to be accidental," Tucumcari Police Detective Jack Hendrickson said.
Coomes' brother, Lance Coomes, found the body, according to a police report.
"The body had been there for a day or two" and Mitch Coomes "had been electrocuted while trying to cut copper wiring from a live transformer," according to Hendrickson's statement in the report.
