Joe D. “JD” Lopez Services: A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, also at St. Anne’s. Joe D. “JD” Lopez, 70, died Sept. 6 in Albuquerque, following an extended illness. Mr. Lopez moved to Albuquerque five years ago after living in Tucumcari all his life. In Albuquerque he was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. He was born in Tucumcari on March 12, 1936 to Alfonso and Antonia Lopez. Mr. Lopez was a retired custodian. While in Tucumcari, he was a member of St. Anne’s Church. He was also a member of the Eagles, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Survivors include his longtime companion, Bertha Arellano of Albuquerque, three sons, Ruben (Eleanor) Lopez of Mesa, Ariz., and Johnny (Noami) Lopez and Davey Lopez, all of Denver, and a stepson, Dino (Crestina) Arellano, three daughters, Shirley Lopez of Las Vegas, N.M., Elizabeth Gomez of Espanda, N.M., Rhonda Lopez of Albuquerque, and a step-daughter, Geraldine Arellano of Albuquerque. Also surviving are two sisters, Lydia (Eddie) Fazekas of Tucumcari and a sister, Rosie, many nieces and nephews and 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Emilio and Orlando Lopez and a son, Ronald Lopez. Honorary pall bearers are Leo Arellano, Emilio Torres, Leo Arellano, Esperanza Torres and Manual Torres. Leo Padget will officiate at the services. Burial will be at Tucumcari Park Memorial Cemetery.
