Pete Kampfer has been executive director of the Greater Tucumcari Economic Development Corporation since 2004. He is leaving Feb. 9 for a similar position in Paris, Texas.
Pete Kampfer, executive director of the Greater Tucumcari Economic Development Corp., said he will be leaving his post on Feb. 9.
Kampfer is taking a new position in Texas and will become the executive director of the Paris Economic Development Corp. and president of the Lamar County Chamber of Commerce. Paris is northeast of Dallas.
Kampfer said Friday he was moving for family reasons.
“We regret his decision to leave, but wish Mr. Kampfer well in any future endeavors,” Franklin McCasland, president of the GTEDC board, said in a press release.
Kampfer, 49, has been executive director of the Greater Tucumcari Economic Development Corp. in Quay since 2004. His tentative start date in Paris is Feb. 12.
Until a replacement if found, Kampfer's responsibilties will be handled by the GTEDC board, the release stated.
“The board is organizing a regional search for an experienced director to maintain positive momentum and focus on its strategic plan,” the release stated.
McCasland said the board would be meeting next month to further discuss a replacement strategy for a new director.
Kampfer and his wife, Julie, have three children. Julie Kampfer has taught math at the Tucumcari Middle School, and his son, Daniel, is a junior at Tucumcari High School where he played football and was recently selected for honorable mention for the New Mexico 2A All-Star team.
Their daughter Amy is a Chamber of Commerce executive at Mineral Wells, Texas, and his son Trey is a senior at the University of Texas.
Recent GTEDC accomplishments include, among others, the re-opening of the Route 66 Ethanol Plant, recruitment of Interstate Distribution Corp. and implementation of Tucumcari Main Street Project, the press release stated.
