Two Rattler wrestlers placed and another won first in his class at the Cardinal Wrestling Classic Tournament at Robertson High School at Las Vegas. “We did real well against all of the teams,” said senior Brian Lopez about the tournament on Friday and Saturday. “It was good to wrestle against all of them and see who we will wrestle later on in district and state,” Lopez said. Lopez won first place in the 215 pound class, Jacob Ramirez placed fifth in 112 pounds and Ryan Fought placed sixth in 135 pounds. “The level of competition at the tournament was great,” said coach Eddie Encinias. "At first I was disappointed with the matches we lost. But when I looked back at those matches we only lost them by a few points. “The guys wrestled against some good opponents and a lot of good came from this tournament. "We are going to work harder now that district and state competitions are coming up. And with our guys being in such good condition, we will own the third period if the match goes to that.” The Rattlers next tournament is Friday at the Sierra Blanca Invite at Ruidoso.
