Amazing Gracie... Gracie Otero will be celebrating her fourth birthday today. Her family and friends will celebrate with a Disney Princess theme. Her parents are Gino and Miquela Otero and she has one younger sister Emily Otero. Her grandparents are Gene and Evelyn Otero, Charlie Valverde, Judy Martinez and the late Joe I. Martinez. Her great grandparents are Vera Cordova, Rose Otero and the late Pete Valverde Sr. Rebekahs seek help... The Rebekahs are seeking past articles and photographs about its history to celebrate the centennial of the Rebekahs of New Mexico. Any items from Ruth Rebekah’s Lodge No. 4, San Jon’s Rebekah Lodge or the Northeast Association would be appreciated. Items are needed by March 1. If you can help, call Serena McDonald Goar at 461-4917. Frost among officers.. The New Mexico State Fair Commission recently elected officers for 2007. Frank Tabet of Belen was elected chairman. Luke Otero of Santa Fe was elected vice chairman and Bob Frost of San Jon was elected secretary/treasurer. Other members include Alvino Lucero of Isleta and Nerrissa Whittington of Albuquerque. Gov. Bill Richardson recently appointed Benny Roybal of Espanola to the commission. The commissioners set policy for the administration of the fair and serve on committees dealing with specifics of the fair’s operation. Three schools honored... Three area school districts were recently honored by the state’s Secretary of Public Education Veronica C. Garcia. They were three of 18 school districts that met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements. They are Logan Municipal Schools, Melrose Public Schools and San Jon Municipal Schools. Each district received $1,000 to use for education materials. The awards were presented Jan. 19 in Santa Fe. Tourism help offered... The Quay County Rural Economic Development Through Tourism (REDTT) Council is hosting a reception for businesses that serve tourists. Come and discover what others are doing to try and keep our travelers in the area for an extra day. The reception will be at the Tucumcari Convention Center from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday and is sponsored by the Convention Center, Chamber of Commerce, Glenrio Visitor Center, Mesalands Dinosaur Museum and the Extension Office. This will be a great networking opportunity and hopefully will help the businesses increase their business.
