The Tucumcari Rattlers athletes were recognized Monday night at the traditional sports banquet at the Tucumcari Convention Center. The awards included most heart, most improved and player of the year. Several special awards were given to some parents. Ellen White and Tina Garcia were recognized and given an award by Rattlers baseball coach Tony Alarcon for their help during the season. Garcia and JoAnn Smith were also honored by wrestling coach Eddie Encinias for their help during the season. “A lot of people don't know what hard work it is to coach a team,” said Encinias. “And the help that we coaches get from the parents means a lot.” The final awards for the night were for Academic Athletes of the Year and Athletes of the Year. Brian Lopez and Samantha Montano were recognized as the Academic Athletes of the Year; Drew White and T'Shawna Span were recognized as the Athletes of the Year.
