07-04-2004: Tuck's Turf
Published: Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007
This week starts off with a bang. The Annual Legends of Mesa CC 3 Person Scramble is at 12:30 p.m. today. The tournament is held each year to remember or departed members and friends from the past. I have been here two years and the families and friends have donated or purchased Pine Trees behind No. 9 and also No. 2 to Spruce up and for us to remember our friends. The last part of the month, July 27-29, is the 35th Vic Breen Scholarship Partnership Tournament. Sign up before its too late. Pointer of Week Lower is better: It is much easier to control distance on pitches and chips by hitting lower trajectory shots into the greens. A side benefit of playing low is that it will help you make solid contact with your full swing, too. The key to hitting this shot: As the hips rotate toward the target, let the back of your left hand pass over the ball before the clubhead makes contact. The hand and body keep turning well past impact. Don't stop This tip is from Zach Johnson, 2007 Masters Champion. Howie Tucker is the PGA pro at the Tucumcari Municipal Golf Course.
