City Commission OKs agreement to hire Lopez as consultant
Published: Saturday, September 22nd, 2007
An agreement for New Mexico State Police Cpt. Daniel Lopez to become a volunteer consultant, with no pay, was approved by the City Commission at a special meeting on Thursday.
Lopez was selected as the city’s new police chief, but has not officially accepted the position. Lopez, who is set to retire from the state police, does not want to jeopardize any of his retirement benefits with Public Employees Retirement Association.
Sutherland said he had met with Lopez about the agreement earlier and that all appeared OK. Start dates and other details would have to be worked out, Sutherland said.
The agreement calls for Lopez to receive no salary, but to be reimbursed for expenses.
