The Quay County Maternal Child and Community Health Council has outlined eight priorities for 2008 to improve the quality of life and health in Quay County. They are: l Substance abuse l Suicide l Family Violence l Childhood Obesity l Health Care Access l Teen Pregnancy l Childcare l Immunizations Based on records from 1999 to 2003, 11 persons lost their lives to suicide, according to a MCCH report. Teens are particularly vulnerable, said Alida Brown, MCCH coordinator. Studies indicate 15 percent of Quay County’s high school students have attempted suicide, 18 percent have made a plan, 20 percent have seriously considered suicide.
