Jessica Marie Jaramillo

The University of New Mexico awarded  Jessica Marie Jaramillo of Tucumcari the Alumni Citizenship Award at the 2008 Recognition Reception April 10.

Jaramillo is the daughter of Gary and Gail Balzano of Tucumcari. She attended Tucmcari High School and will earn her Bachelor’s  of Arts in Political Science and Spanish from UNM. She  studied at the University of Granada in Granada, Spain as  well as at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

While attending UNM, Jaramillo was a part of the Associated  Students of the University of New Mexico (ASUNM) where she  served as student senator and elections commissioner. She  was also a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and  has completed more than 100 hours of community service. 


She served as an intern with state Rep.  Roberto “Bobby” Gonzales at the New Mexico Legislature and will be spending the summer in Washington, D.C. interning at U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman’s office. 

Jaramillo intends to apply to law school in the near future.

The Alumni Citizenship Award recognizes endeavor, helpfulness, good spirit, and cooperation and  is  given to a select number of seniors who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and have provided continued 
service to the University and the community.
