Thirty-eight seniors walked Friday night to recieve their Tucumcari High School diplomas.
“Each is capable of great things,” said salutatorian Michael Martinez.

It was one of the smallest classes to graduate in Rattler history. In 2007, 63 seniors participated in graduation exercises.

Although the class was small, the students’ enthusiasm and smiles were matched by family members and friends who filled the gym with applause and cheers for the graduates.

And combined the class has garnered almost $400,000 in scholarships.

Class valeditorian Caitlyn Romero took her classmates down memory lane to the times when they played their first Little League games and experienced their first wins and losses.

Today, their ambitions range from art to cosmetology to engineering.

Justin Alvarez said he’ll be entering UNM to study architecture in the fall.

“I’ve wanted to study architecture, ever since seventh grade, when I took a computer aided design class,” Alvarez said.

Krysta Romero said she plans to attend Clovis Community College and study cosmetology.

Brooke Rameriz said she’ll be studying broadcasting at ENMU.

Joshua Braziel said his plans call for studying art. “I”m going to stay in town and go to college here.”

“We survived 13 years of school, we survived Senior Week ... we can survive anything,” Martinez said. “Now, we must continue our journey in life.”

A total of $387,955.00 was offered to the graduating Class of 2008 at Tucumcari High Schoo.
