Twenty local cancer survivors took the first step in the fight against cancer at an all-night Relay for Life walk or run on Friday evening at Rattler Stadium.
Backing up the cancer surviors were seven relay teams, which combined had raised more than $1,800 to enter the event, said Christy Benavidez, Quay County Walk for Life Relay chairperson.
Donations from the event will be given to the American Cancer Society, said Juana Sandoval, who helped organize the event.
“This is our third year to enter a team,” said Methodist youth group director Brian Harman.
The teams were to keep circling the track until 8 a.m. today, occasionaly taking breaks in one of the many tents pitched on the playing field.
