The Route 66 Festival Team Roping competition attracted 64 roping teams from New Mexico and Texas  last weekend, said the event’s producers.

The event also netted $2,000 for the Tucumcari Quay County Chamber of Commerce which sponsored the event, said Dianne Paris, executive director of the chamber.

It is one of the chamber's annual fundraisers and the return was better than last year, Paris said.

“The event was delayed for a while because of  rain on Saturday, but everything went well, despite the three-hour delay,” Paris said.

The event was produced by Jane and Gerry Tully of the New Mexico Invitational Team Roping Association. The Tullys are based in Riodoso.
“They said they would come back next year and we’re pleased,” Paris said.

Ropers who earned saddle and buckles  were:
l J.C. Archuletta of Las Vegas, N.M., was Saturday's saddle winner.  Archuletta had a score of 905 for the weekend.
l Larry Webb of Newkirk was the weekend saddle winner with a weekend score of 1560.
l Brandi Brown of Dumas, Texas, was the women's saddle and buckle winner with a weekend score of 730.
l Oren Matthews of Las Vegas, N.M., the No. 4 buckle winner.
