The cause of a house fire over the July 4th weekend has been turned over for investigation to the Tucumcari Police Department, said Tucumcari Fire Chief Mike Cherry.
The fire was reported about 2 p.m. on Saturday at a duplex on Laughlin Avenue between Second and Third streets.
Firefighters quickly put out the fire which started in the bedroom, Cherry said.
"There was extensive smoke damage, but we were able to save the other unit," Cherry said.
Firefighters responded to seven calls over the holiday, including vehicular accidents and several small fires started by fireworks, Cherry said.
There were no fatalities over the holiday, Cherry said.
