The New Mexico Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that the Glenrio Rest Area & Visitor Information Center  on Interstate-40 near the New Mexico/Texas state line has been temporarily closed to travelers, according to a press release.

The closure is caused by  repairs of the center’s waste water treatment plant, the release said.

The temporary closure is in effect until further notice, the release said.

Not long after the center held its grand opening in June, it was closed because e-coli was reported in its water. And the center’s power to two wells which provides its water were reported to have gone out.

The center features a gray-water system that recycles water for irrigatiing landscaping, power from a small wind turbine and other energy conservation features.
