Homeowner Christy Jones got out her garden hose to dampen the fire before Tucumcari firefighters asked to leave the scene.
The fire burned down several sections of a wooden privacy fence in the alleyway between south Fourth and Fifth streets.
A fire that started Monday in the backyard of a Tucumcari residence was quickly brought under control by the Tucumcari Fire Department.
The fire in the alleyway between south Fourth and Fifth streets was reported about 10:50 a.m.
Homeowner Christy Jones said she did not know what caused the fire. The fire consumed her wooden privacy fence, a trampoline and other items.
Grass in the backyard of neighbor, Mary Rivera, was burned and the fire was stopped inches from Rivera's deck.
Jones and Rivera each said that everyone was lucky because no one was hurt and no structures were burned.
