Mesalands Community College’s Rodeo Team traveled to Florence, Ariz.  March 14-15 where they competed in two successive events and placed in the top five.

The men’s team took fifth place in the first event and third place in the second event.


The Women’s Team didn’t place in the first event but moved into fifth place for the second event.


In the first event, Frank Alguire took second place and Mika Saltzburg fourth in Bull Riding.  Allen Charley placed fourth in tie-down roping, and Clay Elkins earned fourth place in Steer Wrestling.  Hayley Harris took third place in Breakaway Roping.


The second event saw Lachlan O’Neill take first place in ssteer wrestling and set a new arena record of 3.8 seconds.


Jeff O’Donnell earned fourth place in Steer Wrestling and Michael Bates placed seventh.


Donnie Frazee took third place in bareback riding and Frank Alguire fifth place in bull riding.


Shane Meeres, Kordale Secody, Colby Smith and Clay Elkins secured fifth/sixth place in team roping.


Meagan McCain took sixth place in barrel racing and eighth place in breakaway roping.


After the Florence Rodeo the national standings show some definite promise for the Mesalands team.


Clay Elkins holds secondplace in steer wrestling and 11th all-around. Jeff O’Donnell is in sixth place in steer wrestling, and is followed by Michael Bates in 13th place.  In bull riding Donnie Frazee holds 13th place and Frank Alguire is in 20th place.


The Mesalands mens’s team presently holds position number 13 in the national standings.


Mesalands competes April 10-11 against Navajo Technical College at Crownpoint.
