Mesalands Community College Diesel Technology student Travis Lengal placed second at the New Mexico SkillsUSA Competition held in Albuquerque last weekend.
The competition included 12 stations that presented different mechanical, electronic and other job related problems for the students to solve.
“It was a very good trip [for the students participating] with other beneficial results that can not be measured in the standings,” said Power Technology Instructor, Carmen Gentile.
One of those benefits for Lengal was an invitation from Albuquerque-based Caterpillar Wagner to apply for a position with them upon graduating from Mesalands. The invitation was extended to Lengal while he was at the competition.
The team from Mesalands participating in the competition included Travis Lengal , Matthew Padilla, and Danny Lambach, who are in the Diesel Technology program, and Robert “Jose” Munoz and Adriana Gonzales, who are in the Automotive Technology program.
