The Quay County 4-H Shooting Sports program is hosting its first annual 3D archery shoot as a fundraiser to provide equipment for the archery and shooting program.
The Mesa Redondo Shoot will be at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 1. It will be held at the former site of the Cowboy Camp meeting at Mesa Redondo Mesa about 15 miles south of Tucumcari on Hwy 209. Watch for signs on the east side of the road for the turn and then follow the road to the Mesa.
There will be eight classes for people to choose to shoot in: First Place Prize for the Adult classes are Block targets. The classes are Open, Bow Hunter, Senior, Traditional, Women, Young Adult, Youth, Cubs and Pee Wees. Every Pee Wee entered will receive a medal.
Entry fees are $30 for adults; Youth 12 -17, $15, Cubs; 8 – 11, $5 and Under 8 free.
Mulligans can be purchased for $5 each, but there is a limit of one mulligan per half of the course.
The course will be 20 targets shot twice to equal 40 targets. IBO rules will be be followed. 4-Hers will be helping to set up and tear down the range and will be working before the shoot and during lunch. They will also be able to enter and participate in the shoot.
Camping will not be allowed. There will be a lunch concession run by the 4-Hers.
The program is made possible by the generous donations from area organizations that helped 4-H purchase 3D targets and by the County Shooting Sports Leaders who helped to plan the event.
