Press release: State of New Mexico Department of Public Safety.
George Bellinghiere, 69, of Nampa, Idaho, died early Thursday morning from a single vehicle crash in Quay County.
At 8:30 a.m., State police officers from the Tucumcari office were alerted to a single vehicle crash on the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near milepost 367 just east of Tucumcari. The officers’ investigation showed that Bellinghiere was traveling on Interstate 40 in a 1999 Dodge pick-up pulling a travel trailer, when Bellinghiere lost control of his vehicle on the roadway and slid off the interstate impacting a 30-foot rock wall. The pick-up and trailer rolled then flipped onto the trailer with the pick-up upside down crushing the trailer.
The Office of the Medical Investigator pronounced Bellinghiere deceased on scene. Contributing factors in the crash were speed and no seatbelt.
