I-40 eastbound from Santa Rosa to the Texas state line has reopened after the highway was closed since Thursday afternoon according to New Mexico State police.

U.S. Highway 54 from Tucumcari to the Texas state line remains closed.

A severe snowstorm on Thursday forced road, school and government offices to close and made driving conditon dangerous.

City of Tucumcari, Quay County courts and Quay County schools remained closed on Friday.
