Portales and Tucumcari MainStreet programs have been chosen to serve as models in creating a New Mexico MainStreet entrepreneur development initiative.
“I am excited,” said Mark Lake, director of Tucumcari's MainStreet program.
Lake said this is a great opportunity for the city of Tucumcari.
The state Economic Development Department says the initiative includes two years of technical assistance to help entrepreneurial growth.
“We will have two consultants from the state that will work with us,” Lake said.
Lake said the consultants will assess and review businesses in the district. They will look at what type of business the community needs and help to develop a plan to attract that type of business.
“This is going to have a positive impact on existing and future businesses,” Lake said.
New Mexico MainStreet's two-year assistance package will help the communities expand their role in supporting entrepreneurs and developing tools to create networking and partnership opportunities, officials said.
“This will provide a boost to our ability to support businesses and provide a plan for business renovations,” Lake said.
Portales and Tucumcari were selected from among 19 state-certified MainStreet communities competing for the development initiative.
