Sydni Blanchard of Mesalands Community College got one more honor for her barrel racing performance last month — a day in her honor.
According to a proclamation from Gov. Bill Richardson’s office, Friday will be recognized as Sydni Blanchard College National Finals rodeo Day.
Blanchard, a sophomore at Mesalands, was one of seven Mesalands students to take part in the CNFR.
Blanchard’s time of 57.87 seconds was 0.11 seconds faster than runner-up Rachel Tiedeman of South Dakota State.
A 2007 graduate of La Cueva High School, Blanchard was also named the 2010 College National Finals Rodeo Rookie of the Year.
Caitlin Kelleher, a spokesperson for Richardson’s office, said no ceremonies are planned for the trio of athletes.
